Sing!

Sing! is a long time "side project" of Shadowtext and Sei. Sei seems to have lost all interest in the project, but Shadowtext's devotion is stronger than ever, and has all but taken over the project from Sei.

Summary

Sing! is a "Karaoke-RPG" designed around the Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS hardware (basically because a built-in Microphone is vital to the concept). The player controls a hero who fights evil with the power of the player's own voice. A PC version is possible, though preference is presently aimed at Wii or DS.

Story

The story is still largely up in the air. Music plays a big part in the story, as it does in the gameplay. The hero has come into possession of a magic artifact in the form of a musical instrument....something easily portable, that can be used to accompany singing, so probably a small or medium-sized string instrument. Possibly a lute or a lyre, or even a guitar. This instrument has the power to turn the singer's voice into a weapon, and he uses this to fight the forces of evil. This is the premise from which the story begins, though the main conflict has not been decided yet.

Battle System

There are two types of "battles" that take place in Sing! There are Arrangements and Duets. Arrangements are basically normal RPG battles, while Duets are more like karaoke competitions. Most boss battles will begin with a Duet and lead into a Arrangement.

Arrangement

Arrangements take place much like normal RPG battles, only instead of giving the hero commands, the player sings into the microphone. The hero's actions are dependant on such factors as the rhythm, tone, and volume of the player's voice.

Duet

Duets are essentially "head to head" karaoke matches. The player must keep up with the enemy's performance in a karaoke mode. The player is judged on ability to hit the right notes in the right rhythms, though lyrics are not actually listened for.

When the player performs well in some Duets, the hero will gain new special techniques that can be initiated when the right musical scale is used in an Arrangement.

Graphics

The graphics are not decided as of yet, but a cute, storybook look seems like it would be appropriate.

Sound

Sound is of course vital to the Sing! experience. It is important that there be songs with catchy lyrics and memorable tunes, especially for Duet mode. Background music can of course be done without lyrics.

Credits

Besides Shadowtext, Sei helped birth the concept, and almost all of Bimini Road has offered suggestions here and there.
